Hi Simon & All,

Nice report mate. See you have included NGC 6362 whcih is a nice "loose" GC in Lupus. This one has an oddity like M4 -- a bar of resolved stars that crosses it centrally. It is more apparent visually than in images where it tends to be swamped a bit.

In this image:

http://stdatu.stsci.edu/cgi-bin/dss_search?v=poss2ukstu_red&r=17+31+54.84&d=-67+02+52.3&e=J2000&h=15.0&w=15.0&f=gif&c=none&fov=NONE&v3=

It crosses the cluster from about 8.30-2.30 though it isn't easy to see.

Oh and BTW it's not "Capricorn" but "Capricornus" -- unless you are an astrologer!

Best,

Les D

Thanks Les,

I definitely could make out a "bar" of some sort going across NGC6362, almost like a string of stars. I can see in that image where the bar would appear visually :)

I've fixed that little typo, I certainly don't want to be lumped in with astrologers... *shudder*

Interesting read Simon, with some very good descriptions. Have to agree about NGC 362 - certainly one of my favourites.

I like the idea of your constellation star hop - great way to find things unexpected.

Thanks Patrick, I'll be making sure I check out NGC362 more often.

I rushed through Pavo a bit, but next time I plan to coast a bit more and hopefully find some of the more interesting objects.
