4 years ago this community bonded together to support one of our most loved and talented members. Jeanette (jjjnettie) underwent emergency lifesaving surgery for colo-rectal cancer and since then she has gone through 3 more major surgery's (preventative and corrective) as well as almost continuous intrusive tests and examinations.

Since then her world has turned upside down in so many ways but still she battles on. She is without doubt one of the bravest, strongest and most determined persons I know. The vast majority of her friends will never know what she has had to endure over these past 4 years, and not just related to the cancer. I feel so blessed to be one of those closest to Nettie. She is without doubt my closest and loved friend and my world would be so so much less without her in it.

So I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate my dearest and best friend jjjnettie on her official "Remission Day" and hope for at least another 40 more.

All the best Nettie :love2:

Thanks Paul. Thanks everyone.
It's been a rough road alright. Plenty of obstacles still in way.
And in all honesty, I couldn't have made it without the support of my friends, here on IIS.
Though having Lynch Syndrome means I'll never be completely in remission, worst luck.
Today's anniversary will be celebrated with my 2 youngest boys.

Congratualtions JJJ,

Though we have never met I have always felt your warmth and encouragement to others through this forum - you are clearly a loving and caring person.

I had no idea of the road you have travelled and like another member her being married to a cancer survivor makes me realise the inner strength you have brought to bear over the last few years. Well done. It's a tough ol' battle but greatly assisted by positive mental attitude and clearly you and those around you have that in spades.

All the very best for the future.

I've got to give special thanks to Ponders, my best buddy, for looking out for me, for letting me cry and vent at him. For being at my side during one particularly awful episode at hospital, that we can laugh at now thank goodness . A girl couldn't ask for a better friend.

Hi JJ, concratulations, lets hope the battle is over and you can now get on with your life. Having only met you once but spending quite a bit of time chatting, I can only say you are a real trooper and even when things looked not so good you were still getting on with life and extending sympathy to everyone who had a problem all be they much less than your own.
Our love and thoughts go out to you JJJ and thank goodness you have a mate like Paul. Best wishes from me and my family and from here on keep well.

I think back to when i first met you JJJ - then think of what has happened in the meantime and try to put things in to perspective. You may think that we give you help or support but somehow i think it comes back the other way in bucket loads. This journey we have around SOL does have some challenges, but there are some outstanding moments, you are one of them! Courageous, charming, witty , knowledgeable and thoughtful are a few words that come to mind:thumbsup:. One thing though – if they ever invent smellavision on the net:P – don’t take off the ugg boots:rofl: Here's to more Anniversaries

Bloody brilliant news Jeanette, I never realized what you had been through. You always seem so cheerful and positive on the forums. It really was great to meet you and Paul at last years Astrofest. If it was not so very far away I would certainly be a regular. I admire your work and after reading Pauls post I have the greatest admiration for your guts and strength of character, wishing you both the very best for the future, may it be very long and happy.

Best Regards

Yup, she's one dedicated & tough lady alright. I have certainly experienced first hand that having really close friends is so very precious when you are in a dark place, good on you Paul.

I like the words of a song I heard recently called "count on me" by Bruno Mars seems appropriate here.

"if you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can't see
i'll be the light to guide you
find out what we're made of
when we are called to help our friends in need
you can count on me like one, two, three
i'll be there
and i know when i need it
i can count on you like four, three, two
and you'll be there
cos that's what friends are supposed to do"

I have known sometime about your battle JJJ and often think of the hardship that this illness can have on a person. So when you say to me you love my work, I have often thought that it is I who loves your work. Surviving as you do is infinitely more impressive than anything I could produce. Keep up the good work.:thumbsup:

A big {hug} and congratulations Nettie!!!

You have got so much inner strength- do you know that?! Despite all your battles, there you are helping everyone else out, and are even able to smile and laugh through it all. You're one tough cookie and a lot tougher than you think at times! ;) It also takes a lot of strength (believe it or not) to actually ask for help, I admire that you can do that. Yep.. you are very special indeed. :)

Paul, those words for Nettie were just so beautiful.

Nettie, I was watching the other day the doco on Farrah Fawcett's fight against cancer (remember, we were talking about her once?). I'm still scarred by it! It was gruesomely real and a brave thing she did, to have everything she went through publicy displayed so that others can understand the torment and struggle. I've watched my father battle and lose to Cancer, but after watching this doco, it made me even more empathetic. The difference though, my father didn't go to every seemingly conceivable length that Farrah did- so it has made me more aware of the desperation for survival also.

Astrofest last year I thought I'd taken plenty of warm blankets. I was wrong. Someone showed their kindness by lending me an extra warm blanket which made the difference between a lack of sleep and being comfortable. I suspect that sort of thing is not all that unusual.

Thanks again.
