I tried to image the HST transitting the Sun this afternoon. The sky was clear, the Sun only 10 degrees above the horizon and the seeing seemed OK. No show on the HST recorded on video (probably not surprising at 1.6" size) but I though I'd post a single frame of the Sun taken with a Canon EOS 550D at prime focus of a 12" SkyWatcher Dobsonian, using a mylar full aperture filter (made using a flower pot dish). There seems to be a fair bit of assymetrical darkening of the disk with this setup.

Hi Tom
Well done for attempting this Tom, it did look like “mission impossible” from the weather pattern of the day - wind, rain and clouds. The low altitude of the Sun would have made this a tricky event although the image you have posted does show some very nice granulation on the disc.
Cheers
Dennis
A nice full disc shot Tom
