Monopod

Hi guys, anyone have any info or suggestions on a monopod for a camera? Important that it can be used as a walking stick...

As I never looked at them before thought I'd ask as I've not noticed them in shops but them I've never looked

When you say walking stick you will need something light, something like a trek-tech might be what you 're after for walking

If you have a d-slr a good monopod should be sturdy & have a good head. The manfrotto range is quite secure, & I had one with a pistol grip

I have recently seen n eBay monopod for $78 which is the same as that offered as series 1000 Garrett optical monopod..it has good reviews among bino enthusiasts

I have a Leki trekking pole with wrist strap and shock absorber. The knob screws off the top end to raveal a 1/4" 20 TPI thread for use as a monopod... specifically the reason I bought it.;) Not all of them have this feature, so shop around and check them out.

Most good outdoor stores should have trekking poles.

Another very firm vote for the Leki sprung trekking poles with the removable knob. I have two for mountain trekking and wold never be without them. They provide stability in tricky and slippery terrain as well as removing accumulated shock weight from your knees over the duration of the hike.

They also make a great length-adjustable monopod! :thumbsup:

I've done some serious off track hiking and can vouch for a pair of good shock absorber type trek poles. I can go faster than many bush runners in bad slippery conditions. Haven't fallen yet.
Mine don't have camera mount head but I keep looking for a fitting I can add.
