Well done, Craig. Looking forward to your first light reviews!
Woohoo, very exciting Craig!!
Guess what!
I have just been informed that Andrews were not sent the base for the 10" I ordered so I've been offered a heavily discounted 12" instead. I really couldn't afford not to have it at that price ;)
I must say, you would not expect this sort of customer service given how cheap the scopes are selling for, but I have been pleasantly surprised yet again. Should have it still by the end of the week too.
I can't wait! Looking forward mostly to seeing what a galaxy like M104 looks like as the 60mm refractor can only see the slightest poofteenth smudge of light with averted vision on the darkest of dark nights
Hope the forecasts are wrong because the clouds are on the horizon.

I hope you are a weight lifting champ - that sucker is huge...
You'll be able to see clouds on a clear night - M16, M8, M20, Tarantula, Eta Carina - goodness more clouds than New Zealand
12" is one serious scope! Will keep your arms big enough! But the sights will more than make it worth it... just get your gym membership now!!

Well done Craig, That is certainly very generous of them. I must admit, I’d expect that from a reputable shopfront such as Andrews. I recall what M104 looked like ia 60mm refractor. Get ready for some great views and some muscle-building.

Stephen

Hi Craig
You shouldnt be dissapointed with the 12". I have had my 12" dob for a few years now and I'm still amazed at the views.
(BTW - I dont think its that heavy, maybe a little awkward to carry)
Peter
Oh, no, mine was the last of an order of 5 scopes, but they reckon they have been ripped off a 5th base from the supplier.

Ive had my 12" GSO for a while, and M104 is one of my favourite objects to look at through it.
Congrats on the purchase :)
Its just arrived this morning! That was a really quick delivery. Took about 20 mins to assemble too.
Its not as heavy as I thought it would be. I had visions of needing to go get myself a fridge trolley from bunnings because the box it comes in looks like you have ordered a new water heater lol. The base and tube are more awkward than heavy. I don't think my girlfriend would want to lift it.
Now just need to wait for a clear sky up this way. I'll let you know how it goes :)

How did first light go Craig? still on a high I bet :)
Really awesome! I can't believe how good it is compared with my old small refractor. It has exceeded my expectations!
Just 2 nights ago I could make out the sombrero galaxy, even though the moon was right nearby and the neighbors had their kitchen light on.
The jewel-box has colours! :eyepop:
Really happy with the purchase. Its not as heavy as I had thought. Can't wait to see what it can do under darker skies.
Think I might have to take it out in the backyard now actually...

Sounds like you are happy. I was blown away moving from a 4.5 to an 8. Moving up to the 12 must be mind numbing. Congratulations
