Jupiter June 23rd 2011

Hi All,

Was up at 4:30 am this morning to image Jupiter.
Have attached two 807nm IR images that have some nice detail in them.

There are some tiny ovals resolved in the STrZ in both images and the first has the region immediately following the GRS well defined as is the detail in the EZ, SEB & NEB.

Have also attached a link to an animation of the complete IR data set.

This data is now looking really good some fine detail, Jupiter still a bit low but promising in a few months time.

Thanks Malcolm & John, certainly some finer detail coming up in IR and should not be too much longer before it is high enough to get some reasonable RGB data.

Yep, nice stuff for so early. Actually I don't class it as early. It's already above 40 deg, at my location @ 5AM....Plenty high enough for great captures in good seeing.

Fair comment Asi, I think the best Saturn I have seen this apparition was an absolute blinder of an image from Damian, taken at 34 degrees alt.
For sure the seeing is more important than the alt.

I remember shooting Mars at below 25 degrees in 9/10 seeing in the States some years previous & whilst it wasn't the best image I've ever seen of Mars, it turned out pretty good considering.

I was browsing Damians Saturn images from this season yesterday & I know the image you are talking about..
