G'day All,

I've been lurking about the deep sky/Solar System sections for a while and am quite impressed with what people are producing from the backyard. The talent you all display is awesome and well done to you all.

I have never been one for astrophotography, much more a visual observer. Since getting a DSLR though things have changed and my friends had to sit down with a stiff drink when they realised I was seriously dabbling in astrophotography.

I really like to take what I term, wide angle astro-landscape photography. In fact there is a similar shot to the one below in the latest AS&T, although I seem to be behind the times according to them "This kind of shot used to be all the rage back in the late 1980's".

Anyway, they give me pleasure and I hope you enjoy as well.

Canon 350D (un-modified) 29sec exposure, F5.6, 1600 ISO, Tungsten WB (this gives the sky that really prominent blue).

Peter.

Very nice shot Peter.

You are not alone in enjoying astro-scenic photography. One of the best around is a lady named Ginger from the States. She does all types of astro photography, but she excells at scenic astro. It is worth a look.

a white balance setting to simulate tungsten lighting?

Tungsten WB refers to the white balance (WB) setting that I used on the camera. You should use this setting if you're taking images indoors under a tungsten based light source.

Being the idiot I am, I have yet to figure out the difference between an indoor light bulb and an outdoor Full Moon (that image was taken under Full Moon conditions)

And thanks to you all for the encouraging words!:)

Peter.

I agree whenever she posts a new image link on Digital_Astro (chikadee80814) I always take the trouble to go and have a look. Always worthwhile.
