I just noticed that the ISS will come very close to Jupiter this morning and found that it transits the planet on a centreline for observers west and south west of Brisbane. I am about to leave in the car now - hopefully the clouds stay away!
Centreline map attached (from CalSky)

Unfortunately no joy. I got to within 2km of the centreline but the ISS passed above Jupiter by about 10 arcminutes, which was outside of the field of view I was shooting for. Pity because the ISS would have been about the apparent size of Jupiter. Next time maybe :) And apologies for a thread in Images with no images!

Hey Tom
That is bad luck indeed, but 10 out of 10 for your efforts and thanks for the heads up – these events are always exciting to see when everything comes together and works out. Good luck for next time!
Cheers

Thanks guys.
Peter - very nice and with the Great Red Spot in transit too! This is kind of like I was hoping to get. A wider field might have captured the ISS and Jupiter but I was going for broke and hoping for the transit :).
Cheers,
Tom

That's awesome! I'd be stoked with just a Jupiter looking like that!
