Hello all!
As I wait for my new QHY8L to arrive from Gama Electronics, I was wondering if there were any tips with setting it up in preparation for its first light?
Any help/advice greatly appreciated as I'm eager to start imaging as soon as the Moon wanes.
Cheers,
Mario
MIght be worth reading up on gain and offset and how to choose best values for your new camera Mario. You'll need bias and dark frames too sometime that can be shot indoors overnight. Chances are you may be using different software to drive things too, so you could start reading up there too. Full moon is a good time to for "engineering nights" :)
Congrats on purchase of your new baby!
Have you registered on the QHYCCD forums and read up on the wealth of info in there?

Hi Mario,
I bought the same camera from Theo at the end of last year.
I have the Gain at 1 and Offset at 133.
Shoot at -15c to -20c.
There is amp glow so you will need to do Darks to get rid of it.
I used to shoot with a modified Canon 1000d and 350d. The results from the QHY8L are a huge improvement.
You will be very happy with the results.
Thanks.
Ross.

Rob,
I've been using the time reading a user manual I found on the web. I'll have to check out the QHYCCD forum...
Ross,
I'm expecting a big improvement going from a standard, unmodified, Pentax Km to the QHY8L. Noise was always an issue here in Brisbane, especially in summer. I'm also looking at getting a better response from the Hydrogen alpha, especially in the Horsehead Nebula.
Can't wait for first light - what to shoot?!!!
Thanks both of you,
Cheers,
Mario
