I noticed some Galah's in the tree at the back of my house and thought I would hook up my Canon 7D to my Williams Optics Megrez 90 to see what the results where like. The results are bloody impressive in my opinion! :eyepop: The following is a 100% crop:

Not an award winning shot, but I was impressed, because I normally use a Canon 400 f5.6 telephoto. I would say the Megrez is on par with the Canon in terms of sharpness, but slightly less contrasty. The Canon also handles colour correction better with backlit subjects.

Very nice Tim. I've been using my ED80 in a similar way. A bit cumbersome though - would like to get a longer lens.

Not bad at all Tim! I'm more impressed by the image of you holding it than the shot itself though :D

I'd be more than happy to have taken that. Was it hand-held or tripod? I imagine focusing hand-held would be a pain.

It was on my Vixen porta mount...

Manual focus hand-held is not really a realistic option, but with a mount and live view, focusing with a good crayford two speed focuser is pretty sweet in a lot of ways.

I might try my Meade 12" next

Yeah, I wont be using the Megrez as a walkaround lens anytime soon :)

Detail is superb - I tried that with my meade 8" AFOCAL a while back and I got a leaf about 200 yards away

Welcome to the world of Digiscoping. If you want more info have a look here (http://www.birdforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=657). The beauty is that you can get tight shots on birds without invading their space. SCT's and Mak's aren't as good as reflected OOF light tends to give donut shapes.

Very impressive Tim. While not a field-friendly choice the M90 sure gets the job done extremely well. I had a chance to test a 400L and I'd like to add it to my gear one day. It's a great birding lens, especially for flight work.

I'm envious that you can go outside your home and see Galahs. We used to have one as a pet, very friendly bird with just about the softest feathering I've ever come across.
