LATE CHANGE: Alex Filippenko (Professor of Astronomy at University of California Berkeley, and supernova super-guru) has had to cancel his visit to Australia, because of the illness of a family member.
Sunday's talk, "Dark Energy and the Runaway Universe", will now be given by Professor Robert Kirshner (Harvard University). Robert Kirshner is a member of the High-Z Supernova Search Team, which won the Gruber cosmology prize in 2007 for discovering Dark Energy with Type Ia supernovae.
Robert is an excellent speaker, and gave several great talks in Australia in 2009.
He'll be introduced by the AAO's astronomer-about-town, Fred Watson.
When: 2 pm Sunday 19 June 2011
Where: Powerhouse Museum, 500 Harris St, Ultimo, Sydney
Cost: Free after museum entry
More details: http://www.aao.gov.au/press/darkenergytalk/
Bookings: via http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/talks/ (http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/talks/)
(The bookings page may still show Alex Filippenko, if the Powerhouse hasn't changed it yet.)
Sorry about any inconvenience.
cheers,
Helen
