This maybe a straight forward question but...Is it even worth doing imaging on DSO whilst the moon is out. I'm keen to try capture m83, it well be around 70 degrees south and moon 40-30degrees west. Your thoughts/tips please :)

Cheers,
Dan:thanx:

You could try...might get washed out a bit, but not as much as in the next week or so. Better off doing NB when the moon is out, which means nebs and such.

No point. The galaxy will be close to your skyglow so very hard to get any data above it.

Thanks Marc and Carl for your thoughts and advice. I'm drifting now:P im going to give it a crack and see what happens. If it starts to look like im getting no where...nebs it is.

Cheers:thumbsup:

Well this was the result anyway. I just had to give it a go :P moon or no moon.

Canon 550d, eq6, newton 8 @ f/5.
30 x 40sec exposures @ 800iso
5 Darks

All things considered im fairly happy, as this is my first galaxy.

Nice shot:)

Pity it is washed out to some extent, but with the Moon up, that's a given.

Even so, there's plenty of detail in the pic. You should be happy with that one:)

Oh, now that you've started, we expect you to have done all several hundred billion galaxies by...let say....next Friday:):P:P:P
