Took advice from IIS members and redid the NGC4545 image that I had posted and took greater care to preserve star colour etc.
Feel this is a better blend of about 4 Hr of luminance and 3 hr of colour with the QSI 583camera and 10" SCT at fl of 2500mm.

Looks real good, Allan:)
The FL does the galaxy justice.

Carl
It has taken a while to get the guiding working so that Im happy with it at that focal length. I have used OAG previously but I find that I can do just as well but easier using a separate guidescope. I know thats against current wisdom but have done 30 and 40 min subs with my setup and no problems except for aircraft which make a bee line for my small spot of sky (see attached image which was the first of a set of subs.)

Very nice detailed image Allan. That is good that you don't need to use a OAG to keep the stars pinpoint with your SCT.

That's a good repro and an excellent NGC 4945 Al

That's a big improvement Allan! Colours in the galaxy are looking much better than previous versions. Overall, a really nice image!

Nicely processed Allan. You must be happy with that.

Fantastic image Allan, but I'm going to fly into the face of condemnation from my peers. :P It looks a tad too saturated on my monitor. The dust lanes look great in detail, but too orange and there are a couple of blue stars in there that you could get a fortune for if you could get them on a ring. I love the way the dust lanes seem to hang over the body of the galaxy but the colour looks a bit to intense.

Lovely Galaxy Allan. This one has always been a hard target for me but you have managed some really nice detailed data on this.
I hope you don't mind but I am unable to leave it alone. I have just lightened it, sharpened it a little and changed the colour balance a bit towards the blue with a bit of selective saturation of the stars.
Sorry but it's hard to get a nice result with a JPG file.

That's probably Peter Ward trying to sabotage your shots:):P
He knew you were imaging and took a "detour" just over you at the right time:)

Now that's more like it Doug! That is a fantastic shot Allan. That's just lifted the dust clear of the glow. Now if you could just lighten the background up a bit ;)

Thanks Lester, I sometimes oscillated between OAG and guidescope. The latter is definately easier.
Thanks Mike - Only trying to emulate others.
Al, thanks for the nice comments.

Thanks Marcus, just trying to get there. Ive gone into co-ownership with Peter_4059 for a Spyder3 to get all monitors correctly colour balanced and I think its helped. Although some may disagree (see later).
Thanks Peter, still prefer your processing style.
Hmmm. Looks OK on my monitor but you may be right its all personal taste I suppose. Just watch your back at Astrofest - may have to adjust your laptop
Doug
Go for it. To me it looks a little washed out. I still have a lot to learn especially with processing.

Allan, fantastic work.
This is one of my favourite Galaxies and you have captured it beautifully
Doug, excellent touch up

Thanks Ken for the comments and to be honest, on comparing the two side by side I prefer Dougs rendition to mine. Brings out the dust that little better and tones down the colours a bit.

Maybe I should just email off the stacked image to someone that CAN process it.
Thanks Troy - see you at Astrofest with the new camera?

Not really, there always seems someone out there can do better.
But thats the learning game and there are so many willing to share expertise here that makes IIS so good.

Looks absolutely wonderful, Allan. Magnificent image scale.
I have done this one, once before, using the ED127. I miss long focal length imaging. Would love to own an RC one day. :)
I'd love a go at processing your shot. :)

I also love this image scale for galaxies and was seriously looking at a 12" GSO RC but the opinion is that at 26KG its at the top end for a Losmandy GII. However its about what Im running at the moment. Too many choices.

The QSI coupled with the 10"SCT gives great resolution. Its improved since I really set about collimating it properly.
Thanks Paul.
See you there and have a shoot out. Allan.

As far as detail is concerned, I cant remember seeing an amage of this target with more ... thats a great reward, a keeper for sure.
Fantastic work - love it Allan
I actually love Doug's repro colours a tad more though....halo a bit more white as you might expect. Either way, fantastic data, and fascinating that you've gone against the grain and come back from OAG to guidescope. You must really have the rig singing in that case.

Thanks Paul, still looking for that new scope :D
Thanks for the comment, Jeff as I've imaged this before but not at this FL and rigorously collimating my scope is beginning to pay dividends in the detail I can now extract.
