View Full Version here: : New scope = bad weather
Hi all,
New scope due (hopefully!!) wednesday...
So here is the forecast from the Bureau:
"Canberra area
Cloudy. Isolated showers, falling as snow above 700 metres in the morning. Winds westerly averaging up to 40 km/h.
-4 to 10 degrees"
I live at 600m... :(
Anyone had similar experiences???

This happens all the time....every time someone buys new equipment:)
Welcome to Amateur Astronomy:):P
How big's the scope??
235mm Celestron on CGEM... I added to my signature as soon as I ordered it!
Actually, when I got my 10 inch dob back in 1995 I experienced wonderfully clear skies for months!! I think I might have caused the drought even! 27 years in amateur astronomy and until now it has always been other people who were rained on... guess it is my turn now! :(
Ah ha, so your the culptrit. :D
I live at 733 metres so there will probably be snow on the doorstep tomorrow.
All I have to do is think about an evening session and the clouds roll in. :mad2: I've learn't that if you ignore them and keep setting up then they seem to move on and settle in Canberra. ;)

I've been in the game for 40 years and I can almost categorically say that every time I've bought something new or wanted to observe, it's clouded over. If I just went out and observed, it'd be fine...planning seems to bring on the moist stuff!!!:):P Mind you, summer up here is a complete waste of time, so that means for around 7-8 months of the year, observing runs from blah to absolutely woeful to non existent. Winter is usually the best time here, but we still get clouded over every now and then, like today.
If I ever had the chance to get a CDK700 or something larger, I'd be accused of destroying astronomy in Australia because with my luck, we'd all have to move up to where you are...the rest of the country would've flooded from all the rain!!!!:):P

Hmmm I have also purchased last week on this site. Since I got my item the weather here has gone bad. Do you think closing down the buy and sell section on this site might help improve the weather.

Martin, it doesn't matter where you purchased, the rain gods will know:):P
My new scope will hopefully arrive for the long weekend and the weather report predicts much the same for my area.....except for the snow! (Dont get much of that in QLD) I have a 100% "success" rate with bad weather when new equipment arrives :(

Brendan, if it snowed up here, they'd be in all sorts of bother down south!!!!:):P
Of course the scope is delayed until friday now... and the "snow" is quite clear and sunny today!!!
Mind you, it is still a top temp of 8...
