I can see why you are happy with that. Was it unguided also? Stars look great!

There is such a huge difference in the noise from the 550D at different temps. My sensor generally sits at about 10 degrees above ambient during an imaging run - so the last few nights it has been 25-26 degrees - but during summer is more like 37-38 degrees. The noise is much easier to deal with at the lower temp.
I will dig up some darks and post them.
That is a cracker of an image by the way !

Thanks guys. I'll work on this one again today, see if I can give it some more contrast.

Wow. Like that. Noise under control, detail great, framing good, stars nice depth. Gotta be happy with 550 now.?

Guess who can stack RAWs now :D. Now you've done it to yourself. Really set the standard. Fantastic shot Nettie. I agree you have handled the noise really well. Excellent detail. What process did you use to sharpen? It looks to have done a nice job.

She didn't give in without a fight though, did she Paul.
My colt didn't give me this much curry when I broke him in.
But stubbornness pays off. Makes the victory all the sweeter I think. ;)
and so you shoul be happy. this is the type of stuff i am hoping to eventually do once i sell my scope and get an ed80.
i cant stack raws at teh moment tho, only tiffs. but i dont have the lastest DSS

25X5 is a good noise kill ratio. Well done JJJ. I like the way you have refrained from hitting the 'lets go nuts with the saturation here!' button.
Great stuff.

more saturation = more noise
It looks pretty in pastel. :D

Very nice JJ, you have captured a lot of the bouter nebulosity considering the short subs. Looks like this camera will be OK after all......................... That has to be one less worry.
Keep them coming.

Looks pretty nice JJJ. Colour could be a little more saturated, but not too much of course.
Stars look generally good with good colour and pretty reasonable shape.
I like the image scale of the first image, and am not keen on the second, some minor problem spoil the look of that image. I would like to see another 2 to 3 hours of data on it. Then boosting saturation will prevent noise. Certainly one of your best to date. I am really looking forward to seeing more of your images.

Here you go:
I didn't have any 300 second darks at the same ISO - but this is a useful comparison anyway.
1st image: 300 seconds, 400iso, 38 degrees
2nd image: 300 seconds, 800iso, 26 degrees
these are 300x300 pixel crops from the upper left of frame

Wow, babez. That is your best effort yet. Top stuff!
What did you have to do to get DSS/RAWs to play nice?

H, the latest version of DSS can handle RAW files a lot better than the previous versions.

Glad you like the image H.
