Another night of clear skies, though a combination of wood smoke and a rolling pea soup fog caused me to pack it in early.
13x3min exposures captured in Jpeg
Canon 550d @iso400
Tamron 90mm @ F4.5
Unguided
DSS and CS3
I learned a lot processing this one. Selective colour is my new best friend.:D
I wanna go through all my old images now and do a repro.

Gday jjj,

Bugger the image is not showing up when I select it. Looks very detailed from the thumbnail tho. How long did you take to get a good polar alignment taking 3min subs :eyepop: that's very cool!

Daniel, my mount was left up from the previous few nights. And honestly, I should have done another quick drift align before starting another imaging run. I would have been doing 5 minutes unguided if I had.
Drift aligning using K3CCD Tools can be very quick compared to other methods.

:eyepop: This is so cool JJJ. I absolutely love it!
That's exactly what I'm trying to do with my Pentax lens. Great stuff. You inspire me.

Still shooting in Jpeg Adam. I forgot to change the setting to capture both sorts so I could test out that beta.
The noise is still there, it's just that it's hiding behind all those stars. :D
I have a few clear nights coming up, I'll go back to prime focus and see how it goes.

Very nice JJ. A lot of depth and detail there. I like the background stars.
Some of the brighter ones have a violet hue though. What happened there?

I am about to do some lens imaging as well. I have been collecting Pentax 67 lenses and have an adapter on the way to fit them to my Proline. I have 55 F4, 85 F4, 105 F4 and 300mm F4.

A wide field lens shot is always a pleasing image.

Greg.

I'm guessing it's CA from the lens Greg. Tried a bit of this and that to subdue them , but to no avail.
Wide field takes the pressure off too. It's pleasant not to have to worry about guiding.
Thanks for looking.

Well Done jjj!

I am a big fan of widefield shots like these. Your image looks lovely and sharp and looks like that La Nina has finally buggered off over east and arrived over here in the West :P with all those images you've been posting recently.

Well done again:thumbsup:

That is a great image JJ. What happened to shooting in RAW mode. Is the noise better in JPG or something. You are certainly pumping out these wide field images.
Now it's time to get back to your scope. I am going to go the other way when the weather breaks and try some widefield with the camera fitted to the mini tower mount. Should be interesting.

RAW does usually show more noise, but I'm not sure how it evens out over long exposures or not (i shoot raw), just that raw will give more noise for shorter exposures than jpeg.
