thanks gang. i was lucky with this shot i was walking back to work there my camera was in my car so i drove to the jetty wishing it would be still there :eyepop:. H i will try fixing this halo around the jetty i think i used to much feathering :P

As noticeable as it is...I actually like it and think it adds to the effect. I get similar (but darkening) effects around clouds and roof-lines when I use too much of the clarity slider in ACR. Back it off a touch and it goes away. Did you use the selection tool and feather it as you lightened the buildings?

Anyways, I still like it as it is. It has impact.

i don't yous the clarity at all unless i want to soften portrait shots. i did you feather tool light the building because i don't have any gradient filters so i under exp my shots a little bit

Great shot Shane, but if I was a bit picky I would say that that was a halo and not a Sundog.

Impact? It looks unnatural. Like what HDR leaves behind -- halo artifacts.

Shane, I don't think you need to use feathering here as there is a very clear delineation between the building structure and the clouds/sky. The selection tool such as the magic wand (with appropriate tolerance) will handle the selection quite well for you. If need be, feather just one or two pixels. I generally avoid feathering in my selections and spend the time getting them right. They might look OK on screen, but, as soon as you print, they're noticeable. Remember, screen doesn't show anywhere near the detail a print does, so, I base my suggestion on that.
