Hi there, I've found you and joined up, especially to ask if anyone knows what I and my grandkids, and friends down the road, also out under the clear sky by a fire, saw on Saturday night (28/5)
Young one pointed out a reddish star, and as we looked, a BIG ball of bright white light took several seconds to pass across the Southern sky in a SouthWesterly direction. It had an intense, bright, beautiful blue tail ....I could only say WOW!! ...and wish I had a camera open!

I'm particularly interested as a few years ago, on June 15th? my daughter on her birthday saw something similar (without blue tail).
Several days later we heard there had been a near miss with an asteroid passing between Moon and Earth, closer to us! It had not been seen approaching, only observed as it departed our realm.

My viewing the other night had no sound but it seemed so close I was expecting to hear a hit, but it passed over the range a couple of k's S & W of us. I wonder if it was observed on the Atherton Tablelands- or further South?
Good to be 'on board'. Thankyou ! :)

I have no idea but it would have been nice to see.

Gee whiz, I have spent hours and hours out in the dark night sky and I have yet to see something like that. I have seen lots and lots of meteorites and there are different types but nothing like that.

One day!

I'm jealous!

Greg.

Someone from Geelong way, spotted one last night / this morning. Heard on GoldFM about if someone else spotted it. Might have to get out tonight.

Could it have been space junk?
