A Supernova has been discovered in M100 (ngc4321) in Coma Beranices.discovered at about 17th mag it is now down to 14.5 and getting brighter, it could get as bright as 12.5 or better. This would be a good target for CCD imagers or medium to large scopes.
The Moon will interfer with observations for the next week or so but by that time the Supernova should be at peak brightness. :stargaze: :astron: astroron

Nice shot Astron, Did you take it? If so, how close was the image taken wrt the discovery date!!
I'll have to give it ago... Thanks.

No Robby I didn't take the image it was taken by an Italian astronomer(M migiarli) three days after discovery, at 15 mag.The S/N was co-discovered by a japanese astronomer(shoji Suzuki) on 07/02/06, at time of discovery it was mag 17.
I don't do deep sky astro imaging, only visual observing for Supernovae. astroron

They find'em so darn quick these days!!! What chance do poor amature's like us have of finding them!!
I know the Supernova program in Tekapo NZ, does sky automated scans of hundreds of southern galaxies each night searching for SN!!!
I guess that at least means that when an amature does find one, it truly is a signifcant achievement!
Keep looking up!
Cheers

Robby we have two guys in South East Queensland who image at least 200 galaxies per night, and I think it wont be long before one of them scores a hit.
I observed M100 on Monday night, but at about 16th mag was at the threshhold of my scope and I didn't see it, but I will keep trying, if Bob Evans can find them so can I. :stargaze: :astron:
