A quick 12x5 of the Crux region.
Canon 550d @ iso 400
90mm Tamron @ f5.6
DSS for stacking, CS3 for processing.
Flats and darks used.
It's got to be the best AP image I've gotten out of the camera so far. :)
Processed with very tired eyes. I'll probably have another look at this in the morning and cringe. LOL

Woo-Hoooo, no need to cringe jj. It's a stunner!
Very nicely done
Stars are sharp, colours are beautiful, contrast is amazing :)
Beautiful jjj! Lots of gorgeous sharp stars, colours, cluster, gas clouds.

That's great JJJ so good infact it brings to mind a question I have been dying to ask someone when I take pic's like yours they seem flat or dull if that is the right word/s. What makes the difference is it the light polution causing it, or is it taking several images and stacking them or is it the flats and darks that bring out the radiance and depth to the image.

It's all of the above Warren. But mostly I think its in the processing.
I usually spend much more time processing the image than I did taking it. Starting with big adjustments in Levels and Curves, and finishing it with micro adjustments before tending to sharpening and colour.
Glad you like the pic.
Shame about the one I'm working on though. Nearly 3 hrs of data, and it's come out crapolla, full of noise. : (

Nicely done JJJ. Dark dust lanes looks very nice and the stars are well saturated.

Nice one JJ - not sure if its a coincidence - but I had my best images from the 550D last night also. Go figure.

It's a contrary piece of work this camera, I'll give it that. :(

Nice image JJ. Captured lots of faint detail in this one.
The coal sac isn't such a barren area after all.

You can make yours betterer by filling your card with many dozens of short subs and stacking them. :D
