No I don't, I mean the State of Origin!

You little ripper, it's that time of the year where, although living in Queensland, I pull out the old NSW jersey, sit in front of the telly and show my true colours. My wife and sons look at me as though I've lost my mind as I stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down for 80 minutes of football. And I love it!!! Yes, I'll admit it, I'm a born and bred New South Welshman who just happens to prefer the lifestyle that Queensland offers. The best of both worlds? You bet, except at State of Origin time!

Go the Blues!!!

Mario

PS And yes, for the last 5 years I've returned the old NSW jersey to the bottom drawer of the dressing table as a small tear rolled down my cheek...

The best footballers are banana benders. We don't have much of a chance. NSW has been infiltrared by those interlopers that run around the field like ballet dancers playing ping pong.

Barry,

Queenslanders are better than us (NSW) for two reasons. One they're got a great team that play as though they've played together for years... oh that's right they have!! And secondly they have the passion for their state that is somehow missing in the New South Wales team.

Cheers,
Mario

PS My youngest son turned to me the other night at dinner and said "Dad, say 'I am a' ". I did this and as soon as I'd said "a" he yelled "Queenslander!!". At 10 he's already got the passion and he's already taking the micky out of New South Welshmen!

It as funny as a play really. :P

Us Kiwi's just sit back in front of the TV with a good beer and watch you Aussies runing around a field beating each other up. 13 a side tag wrestling with a ball thrown in for good measure.

BLUES

Mario, I am similiar to you.
Born and bred in Sydney but choose to live in Victoria where the lifestyle suits me better.

I even started a Rugby League District and 3 clubs here in Victoria :P

That's an interesting comment considering Rugby is the biggest sport in New Zealand!
Where have you been? Get into it! Do your country proud

New Zealand is world famous for their Rugby, and now Rugby League is booming there too thanks to the 'Auckland Warriors'.

JJJ,
Did Kilcoy miss out on its copies of the Courier Mail this morning? I think I counted about 8 pages devoted to it...

I say bring the S.O.O to WA for match 1 in 2012!

I miss the live matches of rugby league over here in the West.

The ultimate thrill is going to a good pub in opposition territory when surrounded by locals and you're the only interstater and your state wins!!!. But if they're about to lose, get out quick smart and preferrably via the back door :D

What I find amazingly strange (but I like it) is that State of Origin is on TV here in Victoria 'LIVE'.
(I'll be watching :D )

Yep, at 7:30pm 'prime time', Victorian TV, the state so devoted to GayFL that they don't even realise anything else exists, have it 'LIVE' each year.

I'm still bewildered about why they play State of Origin in Melbourne.
There will never be a Melbourne State of Origin team.
Must be for promoting the game of Rugby League down here.

I think its a good thing, but it just seems strange.

I think NSW has picked a pretty fair team to kick off this series
for a change, good combinations , form and a pretty fair spread of talent right across the park, that hasn't always been a first choice in recent years imo.

Qld I believe will find things much tougher up the middle and out wide this year, having a freak in Gaz likely to get a little time with the ball in his hands, running at QLDS outside backs, has to be positive as this game wears on. Smith and the halves with Slater bobbing up now and then are still as lethal around the edge of the rucks as they've ever been .

I hope its a great series ,, :)

Half time and a great game so far.

QLD - 6
NSW - 0

Finally a proper game, not like the walk-overs of previous years

Warren, enjoy your victory because the next game in Sydney will be a cracker. Except for Slater's try, Queensland had a lot of trouble breaking the NSW defence.

Their first try was from a kick in behind the line and it was very disappointing to see the lack of desperation in the NSW defence. The only person that was desperate was JT and he ended up scoring the try. Queensland's second try was a gift. What was Morris thinking? He made the cardinal error of playing the man and not the ball by trying to block Yow Yeh from getting to the ball. Silly, silly mistake.

For a change both of NSW tries were from good short passes and getting a player into position. After having defended for so long and yet come home with a wet sail like they did and almost win shows that this NSW team is a great platform for the future.

Would I change the side for the next game? Only one - Dean Young was missing in action in the first 20 minutes and NSW really lifted when Ennis came on. I would replace Young with Robbie Farrah. Both Farrah and Ennis are quick from dummy-half and can make the quick darts that would have the big Queensland forwards in trouble. It would be relentless having those two continually running the ball.

Ken, I feel your pain about living in a non-Rugby League state. When I moved to Adelaide in the early 80's the only way I could get a decent fix of League was to play. And to think I made first grade on my speed and the fact that I actually knew the rules!! Ah, the brothers would be proud!!

Looking forward to the next game,
Mario

PS Warren, good to see that the last smiling face was a blue one!!

The Blues definitely played a fantastic game. there were a few mistakes but they will learn from them.

They now need to keep this team and not start changing players around.

I reckon we'll even it up in the second game.

I'm cursed!! :mad2:
After years spent overseas... First Origin game I get to see on TV in years... so the blues lose!

I went to the Raiders V Bulldogs here at Canberra Stadium last week - first game I've attended in years - so the dogs decide to lose.

First Ashes I have been around to see in years... we lose!

My soccer team (Leeds) didn't promote...

Expect flooding to start when my scope arrives next week!!

HELP!!!!!!! :help:

It wouldn't have mattered if you had come home at any origin in the last 5 years you would have seen the BLUES lose:P. But I am still glad that you have come home to OZ even if you are a BLUES supporter:welcome::rofl:
