I was fairly hesitant about posting this image, the colour is out of whack...mainly because I turned the saturation down to 20% to try to counteract the purple banding you get when using an achro refractor.

And I thought mars & Saturn were hard to get :scared2: Jupiter + achro is going to require lots of thought & experimenting to get right!

From memory didn't you have a "Fringe Killer" type filter you were using in other shots to help the acro with the colour?

Also did you use a barlow?

Yes mate, the fringe killer basically just adds a green hue to the overall colour, I can do that manually by playing with the white balance in the toucam software. A fringe killer might be ok for visual but in this case it does nothing. Just another piece of glass cutting down on the light received.

Yes I use an APO 2X barlow & extension tube. (prime focus)

I will be ignoring the purple bands I see on the laptop & use full saturation & see if I can alter it later in editing software later me thinks.

Actually, what I should be doing is STOP camparing my images to you reflector boys! To get reflector type images in an achromatic is virtually impossible, the sooner I (& others) accept that fact the better!

Taking the avi sequence is easy...it's the processing of the final after registax is where the fun begins lol.

Once I get the 12.5" reflector up & running, imaging will be like falling off a log backwards.

Asi, this is really very good. :) You're right it's a bit hard to compete with the 10inch reflector guys and gals with a 6 inch acro, but you can be proud at what you manage squeeze out of that lump of glass. The fine detail here is fantastic and way better than what I managed last year using the same setup. I had exactly the same purple bands etc just like yours, but not the same level of detail.

the focus and everything are great, but as you say, the colour? if anyone will persist and nut it out, it will mr asimov!
