Found this article in the Brisbane Courier Mail.
"THIS is how Brisbane's skyline will look come September when night will be transformed into day, thanks to an Australian-first laser light show. "

Apparently when you point one laser in the sky you are B$$$$ Idiot.

Hi Brendan,
Down here in Sydney, I was behind a bus yesterday that was still advertising to
give to the Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.
In the Brisbane Times on May 23 2011, there is an article and an informal online poll
asking -
As the poll stands at the time of writing, there have been 683 votes casted
of which 82% have responded Yes and 18% responded No.

They're going to do THAT for 3 weeks.
Time to organise a camping trip out west Brendan.

The Romans used bread and circuses to distract the plebians.
Seems our Premier et al are using the same tactics.
Hope Stephan Ackerie's needle implodes with shame/jealousy.

It's a blooming disgrace, the electicity charges are going through the roof and energy is costing a fortune for everyone and now we get this nonsense:screwy::mad2:
I am glad I am living in the country:D but even the lights of the Sunshine coast are getting noticably brighter:mad2:
Cheers

So much for conserving energy, curbing pollution and global warming:rolleyes:
Well, we all know about the hypocrisy of governments.
No words can explain how I feel, but this is just :screwy:
I don't live in Brisbane but as an astronomer I cast my no vote in disgust!

Now 787 votes and 81% vs 19%. Short of getting everyone on IIS to vote, there's no way you can Bjelkiemander the vote far enough.

Perhaps someone would like to invite Mr. Wilkinson, from Santos, to the Queensland
Astrofest?

No F-111s for a dump and burn, so they find something else. Won't have the smell of kerosene though...

Santos, the proud official sponsors of the Santos City of Lights display to come to
Brisbane this coming September, also proudly proclaimed themselves as joining the
Earth Hour initiative this year.
On the Santos web site they state -
Indeed Santos, there is more to it than switching off lights for more than one hour a year.

Earth Hour is nothing more than a PR exercise and opportunity for those governments and corporations to make themselves look good and draw attention away from what really needs to be done to combat the problems we face. Also doesn't hurt too much to make the great unwashed feel like they're doing something "constructive". As the Roman emperors did many a time, feed the plebs bread and give them games to distract them and they won't see that tsunami of potential disaster coming right at them. For all its initial good intentions, it's nothing more than a feel good exercise that hasn't and won't do a thing to alleviate anything. That will only come when people stop contemplating their navels and start thinking more about their communities and their futures instead of themselves and their reality TV and keeping up with the Jones's.
