As mad keen astronomers we must all get the scope's out as tommorow is the end of the world so it is the last night for viewing and you wouldn't want to wake up tommorow and realise that you will not see the stars again:P:rofl:

I was just reading about it on all the News services around the world.

One 85 year old man believes the world will end on Saturday, so why does it make world news :screwy:
He claims numerology showed him.

This stuff comes up every year. I've lost track of how many times the world has ended!

Now, I wonder how this thread will go with keeping religion out of it (according to the TOS).
I expect we will read all the usual Religion bashing comments over and over again as we do every time something like this comes up :zzz2:

To make the date correct for everywhere it would have to happen when the time is midnight Saturday Night at the international date line, which will make it:

NSW/Vic/QLD/Tas: 10:00 PM

S.A/N.T: 9:30 PM

W.A.: 8:00 PM

This is the ONLY time it can be Saturday everywhere on Earth at the same time :thumbsup:

So using the times I have listed, you now know what time to bend over with your head between your legs and kiss your butt goodbye :lol:

Not true Ken. There are a few places in the Pacific between 165E and 165W deg that operate at UTC+12:45 - Chatham Island, UTC+13 - Phoenix Island, and UTC+14 - Kiritimati

Also there are places operating at UTC-11 - Niue, Pago Pago, Samoa.

So at 10pm AEST Saturday it is already Sunday in some places.

Hence, as it can not be Saturday everywhere at once, another nutcase has reared it head.

UTC offsets were taken from the Olsen timezone database, as used by all good operating systems.

That won't happen, Warren. The whole subject matter is intimately tied in with Judeo-Christian/Muslim beliefs and mythology. It's bound to be raised.

In any case, I'm not worried. This is pretty much an "Only in America" phenomenon and if many there feel the need to act like a lot of lunatics, that's their prerogative. It is a world of pain, as is. Our entire enterprise is virtualised (Zones provisioned on NetApp iSCSI LUNs). There has been a /lot/ of work and a crapload of scripts written to get it all to play nice.

Last night/today/tonight is production. I was at work until midnight last night, and back here at 7:30 AM. Still here. And, will be well into the night...

The time was supposed to be 6pm local time on the 21st, on each continent. So, we're passed the time. If it's local their time (PST), it'll be 12 noon here. 8am (if it's EST), 10am (for MST).
