Here's another one I've just finished processing. Slightly noisy on the edges due to misaligned frames during registration. I took this data over three nights, some had better seeing than others. All up 38x10min so a bit over 6hours.
There's a higher res here (http://www.astropic.net/astro/IC4628_ha_f.tif)[1759x1294px] (4.3MB) and a big one in TIFF format here (http://cid-6930d3ad12d5044c.photos.live.com/self.aspx/Astrophotography/IC4628%5E_ha%5E_ff.tif)[2932x2156px] (12MB).
Again I'll complete this with some Oiii and Sii. Not an AG12's sid by a long shot but it still holds its liquor IMHO ;)
Thanks for looking.

Excellent image as always Marc. Clocking up some hours under the clearish Sydney skies I see.

Thanks Peter. Yeah I go through phases with astro-imaging. Stick it to the clouds!
Thanks Wayne. Yes I sure did while it lasted. Still going to see Xmen First CLass - 2nd of June though even if it's sparkling clear :)

Marc, this is a very solid beginning for an NB image and to do it justice will need quite a few hours of OIII AND SII. I admire your commitment and it will be a great shot when finished. Haven't had clear skies here for a week or so.

Thank Mike. Same outfit. The one that works consitantly ;) APO 90mm at prime focus with the QHY8 and Baader 7nm Ha. 600mm FL. I'm ecstatic with the new refractor. I'm not used to something that doesn't go out of collimation when you sneeze on it. :P
Thanks Allan. Glad you like dit. That's the plan soon to start on the Oiii first and do some HaOiiOii blends to start with until I get some decent Sii. That's going to be the hard bit.
That was quite easy actually. I stayed on the same side of the meridian all those nights. Started around 7:00pm on Eta/NGC3576 worked my way down to NGC6188, then IC4628, bit of catpaw next on the way and finish with a bit of M16. So I clock a bit more time on all of them as the sky unfolds from the east each night. A bit like channel zapping on the telly ;)
PS: I try to avoid M8 but it's hard...
Thanks Carl. If I can manage to keep the Oiii/Sii tight it should be cool.

Very nice Marc. I am really enjoying the Ha mono images now. It's more like the look through a scope on steroids.

:rofl:Well put. It is isn't it? Although I have never done NB from a dark site and I don't know if it would look marginally better but you're absolutely right. Ha is a bulldozer. You can get away with a lot between the moon and LP.
Thanks!

I guide with a GPUSB through PHD. So QHY5>USB>Laptop>USB>USB to Serial adapter>GPUSB>AutoGuider port on Gemini.
Thank you very much Mark.
Thanks Ross. Didn't turn up too bad with the noise. It's a faint one.

Why all this trouble? Why don't you use the guider relays out of the QHY5? Is it because the Gemini guider port isn't ST4 compatible?

Correct. My Gemini box is the the very first model and I needed a special adapter to plug the guider directly into the autoguider port.
