It may be some sort of clone of an eq5 mount Ezy (not sure, what is the weight loading of yours. It looks realtively sturdy  ) but you can check out the genuine article here http://www.myastroshop.com.au/products/mounts.asp

Hi Ezy,
Looks very like the mount that Sirius Optics sell with their Orion scopes, called a Skyview Pro. (The mounts I've seen don't have Orion's name on them, but apparently they do in the USA.) I consider it pretty much a clone of an EQ5, but I could be wrong. Sirius to have a motorized version, too, so they might be able to help you.
Good luck,
Mia

not sure on the weight load Paul. Only information i have got on it is:
Equatorial Mount:
Diameter: 30mm
Axis Diameter: 7.5mm
Counterweight: 3.25kg/piece diameter of axis: 12mm (x2)
Tripod: Aluminum 90cm

Looks more like an eq-3 equivalent to me than an eq5.

It's hard to tell stinky as it's not a "genuine" Eq5, whatever that is :P I have an eq3 and it looks quite different to that, but whether it's an optical illusion of the photos that mount "looks" beefier than mine. Hard to tell.
Ezy, maybe you could take a photo of it with a scope on it so we can get some sort of perspective as to its size.

Let me rephrase that. Take a photo so we can see the scope as well :P

Thanks Mia. Not sure if it is a Sirius. The pic of Sirius seem abit different.
not quite sure if it is 3-2 . but on an 8" scope?
Here's some more pics with the scope. might tell abit better.

Would you guys know if EQ5 motor drives are universal? that is, if it fits on all EQ5 mounts?

I am nooooooo expert but that looks very like a skywatcher 3-2

Yep, going only by the apparent size of it I would guess an eq3 equivalent or 4 at the most. Ok for visual work but a challenge for astrophotography. Might be possible if you get a RA drive, carefully polar aligning using the 8", or a short tube refractor, and piggybacking the camera and manually guiding with a reticle. The short tube, weighing less, would definately be better for this. Fun challenge though.

They may cross over to some equivalent mounts but certainly not all.

Ezy, Having owned an EQ5, I can confidently say yours is not one.
Hmmm, I see myastroshop no longer lists the Optex scope on their site. :confuse3:

Yep, looking at those advertising shots, definately looks like an EQ3/4 variant. Unfortunately it doesn't necessarily mean that eq3 motor drives will fit it. Why not take your mount into bintel with you and see what they can do for you. Just because you didn't buy it there, doesn't mean they won't help you fit it out if it's possible.

No doubt they will solve the problem - let us know what fits (or not) with what when they explain it.....

Hi Ezy , what you have there is a made in Taiwan mount which goes by the name "Giant EQ"
They may well be made by GSO but I,m unsure on this.
cheers
