Scorpius rising in the Milky Way.

Chris and I headed out last night for some moonlit seascape work, and had a good time as we usually do. :)

Photographed under an almost 90% Moon, it's interesting to note how bright the Moon light is that it turns the sky blue in even just 30 seconds.

Its a very "Broome" type of picture. The red rocks and sand take me back to Gantheume Point in Broome.

As you say it's amazing how much the sky has blued up from the moonlight. It looks like 30 seconds is about the limit with a bright moon.

Your comment has made me a happy chappy, indeed.

I'd like to think that if there is one thing I'm good at in life, it is taking pictures. Doesn't matter what kind -- I will always apply my knowledge of the artform to the n-th degree.

I don't pick my camera up to take pictures of just "stuff" in general. I like to think of each image I make as art; something I plan for, or previsualise, or at least think about well beforehand. Take this posted image for example -- I had mentioned to Chris about this location a while back and we've made a few trips there now. I did mention to him that I would like to go there under a moonlit sky and attempt long exposures to see what would be picked up. I have been aware of the general rule of maximum exposure before you start to notice trailing in the stars. So, to that end, I set my exposure, dialed in the appropriate aperture and ISO, to make sure I reached that target. Of course, the most important thing was to frame Scorpius appropriately, so that it sat in balance. It's little things like these which can make or break an image.

Thank you. I'd have loved to have brought out more of the Milky Way. But, the subtle glow of it here works well against the brightness of the sky.

And, yep, according to the ISO used, you wouldn't want to go too much passed that otherwise you start saturating.

David, vignetting is something I love in landscapes/terrestrial images. Not so good for astro, as you know!

I enabled peripheral illumination correction (PIC) and the image kind of lost "something" in the process, so left the vignetting in for artistic effect. :)

And, yes, I definitely want to do more of these types of images. Would love to try this at the equator where the Milky Way looks like it's sticking straight out of the ground. That'd be something!

Another cracker. My thoughts are as everyone elses. Mainly I love combination of the starry blue sky and the long exposure effect over a rocky beach.

I think it conveys a really nice sense of nature, as if to say nature is just as beautiful be it near or distant. If that makes sense :)
