Oh dear....

Dropped my iPhone yesterday, in the driveway at work, no problem I, realised before I'd driven a block and returned to find my toy intact and in the spot it fell.


I drove away a happy chappy....until


I opened the case :jawdrop: to find..... Seriously Busted Screen, both the LC and Sensor are buggered.

In 20 odd years of using mobile phones I have never damaged one until now.

I didn't realise how much I would miss the little blighter or how intuitive and simple they are to use until I bought a Galaxy 5 to keep me running until I can repair the beast, which brings me to the reason for this post, has anyone repiared a 3GS scree if so where did you get the parts.

A friend at work had a similar problem. He got a replacement for much less than the cost of a new one. Might be worth calling Apple and asking them what the 'repair' cost is.

Absolutely right there John - nowadays we people expect nice and large 4" glass plate LCD screens to navigate around our websites and mail on, whereas we used to be OK with dinky 2 & 3 line flip phone displays. Times have changed. :) Thank goodness!

One of my Kids dropped hers the other day. Apple wanted $150+ to fix. Had to book in a repair.:shrug:

She went to some little shopping center phone shop and had it replaced for $80. All good, although this voided her apple warranty.

I know the feeling. I got an iPod touch last year in April for my birthday. You quickly get use to it and they quickly become addictive as an everyday tool. I dropped it in may, broke the digitizing lens. I decided to try to fix it myself. The repair from the apple shop was $179.00 at the time and I thought bugger that I'm going to get a new digitizer from eBay for $25.00... 4 months later I was still trying to source the right parts and buttons. I ended up giving it to a mate whose company specialises in mobile phone repairs and they are now accredited for apple stuff too. Even they had problem sourcing the right bits. So my recommendation is go through the official channels and get it fixed. Not worth the stuffing around. Apple clearly did its homework in making sure every units sold in different geographical areas have subtle differences, like connectors or layouts being mirrored, etc... and on top of all this some parts are heat-glued.

I have had a couple of friends smash their IPhone screens and apparently cheap to get fixed. Between $60 to $80 and If I remember rightly I think they were fixed by a small phone stall shops in a shopping centre,
Shouldn't be too hard to find someone local to do it.;)

My wife's daughter has dropped her iPhone3 3 or 4 times now. First time it cost about $60 to get fixed. Next time was a small crack, then again which made it a larger crack. She changed to a Blackberry a few days ago and dropped the iPhone....again! But she isn't using it any more...after 10 months she seems to have "out grown it" and moved to yet another phone, carrier and plan! I think this is about her tenth phone in about 6 years, who says the younger generation care about environmental issues....they throw away technology just like I throw away a pair of socks with holes in them....actually, I am still wearing mine :sadeyes:

Thanks for the link Chris, I'll order one and see how it goes, as I say I'm usually careful with my stuff, but this one got past me. I'll have to buy a better case, the one I have slips off my belt too easily.

I might add that the Galaxy 5 phone available for $119 at the post office is an awesome phone, gps, touch screen android OS, FM radio and default apps that make apples offer look ordinary, is better in some ways than the iPhone, but the learning curve is steeper.

iPhone/Pads just seem to work how you would think/like not much learning needed.
