My setup

Read with great interest the beginners recommended setup, and took alot of advice in with it...

I decided to buy the Meade LX90 ACF 8" which is the goto and Audiostar.


Haven't yet got it but expect within 10 days will have.


Now, it has a 26mm eyepiece , I was wondering if I should hunt around for some others, possibly power mate or Barlow ? Maybe a moon filter?

All suggestions welcomed.

nice set up the lx90 had a 12"one myself,and the acf optics give it a flat come free view to the edge of the eyepiece...yes i'd but a couple of more eyepieces spend the extra and buy good quality one's.being a f10 at 2500mm f/l try not to use barlows the seeing condition has to be perfect to really use them..

Hi Mark.
Congratulations on the new scope. Never used one myself, but reports are generally good. As Peter said a couple of extra EPs will certainly help, but you will be able to see alot mith just the 26. That EP will give you about 96x which is about a mid range. With a long focal length of 2500mm you will have a fairly narrow FOV with that one so big target will be harder to see, so I would look at a nice widefield. I have a Meade 34mm which gives me 44x and I think a power about 40 to 50x is nice. Might be hard to get that low but something like a TV Panoptic 41mm will give you 60x. At the other end of the scale a 13mm Nagler will get you about 190x. Of course these can be expensive items so maybe just enjoy the views in the 26 for a while till you are used to the scope and know where you want to head.

thanks, ill keep an eye out for a lens like the TV Panoptic 41mm. What about the Diagonal? upgrade at some point to a 2"?

Congratulations on the new puppy, :thumbsup:.

Before you rush out to get all the bells and whistles, see if you can get to a club meeting somewhere. That way, you'll be able to try out other people's eyepieces in your new scope, and see for yourself how this gear performs in it.

The folks there will be able to give practical help, especially since your scope will still have "that new scope smell", :D.

I'd be happy to go over some things with you. I've got a C8 with a 2" diagonal and a few other bits an bobs, and I'd be happy to show you and set up both scopes side by side. I'm in Maroubra.

hi markaus
exciting times with the purchase of the new scope..i see it's know sold that means it's on it's way..
i use televise eyepieces and it's taken a few years to acquire them
1 35 panoptic
2 26 nagler
3 17 nagler

this may help you with what your going to need,had theses also with my old 12"lx90 and have been absolutely perfect to use from the day i'd bought them..
