I have to say you guys are bad bad news..........after seeing the moon I ran around, got the 50 power seeker out, took me ages to find it, all very frustrating but when I did get it focused " OMG" this is what drives this hobby, the simple fact that the wow factor was their! Imagine what it's like with a half decent scope/setup! That does NOT wobble

So, youre only bad bad because you're right! which means the celestron wobbly 50 power seeker does no justice to noobies,

This is guys a great forum, great threads, advice and I hope to have a purchase soon.

hi markaus and welcome..
yep.. it's a great hobby to have every time you use the telescope there's something in the sky that makes you go wow!!!!..know about a purchase of a new scope take your time ask questions join an astronomy club and don't tell the misses what you've bought or how much it was they probably end up leaving you :lol:once they find out...
my advise on a scope would be a 8 of 10" dobbie they are light weight portable plenty of light gathering power and not to expensive and most of all great fun....and a good starting point.
hope this advise helps and welcome to astronomy...

Hi Markaus,

I would second Peter there, I bought an 8" dob second-hand and it's been fantastic, you can see plenty to get you started, easy to use, not too expensive...I'm very glad I made the choice I did.

The only thing I can add is -

If you get a dobsonian you need to think :-
-Collapsible or Truss type - easy to transport ect.
-Solid Tube - can be mounted on an equatorial goto / tracking type mount.

For me first was a 10" dobsonian (solid) on a dobsonian mount and some good quality eye pieces,
next will be an EQ6 Pro mount or heaver duty equatorial mount so It can take future loads eg- cameras ect, (by then I would have leant enough from the club to understand it, & not get frustrated),
and when I'm ready ... Astrophotography.

You mentioned dob with goto what about tracking.

And check out a club / society.

Hi, just throwing in my 10c, I also went the 8" Dobs path after starting off with just binoculars, and really enjoying it.

Cheers,

Be careful with the dob ota on an eq mount for ap.
Focal length adjustments may be required to achieve focus with a camera.
