Browsing through the various threads I couldn't find any info on recommended iPad apps for astronomy,
Anyone know of any? I have planets and distant suns.
Cheers

You want to have a look in the Mobile Astronomy Apps forum. http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=48

I have Star Walk, Star Map HD, Stellarium and Sky Safari Lite as my 'planetarium' type apps.
I also have Solar System, an iBook, and Zinio, an app I use to download and read astro and science magazines. I love both of them.
In terms of the planetarium apps, Star Walk is definitely the most pretty and easy on the eyes, but it is also the most limited in functionality and catalogue size.
Star Map HD has the most advanced features, customizability and catalogue size , but it is almost too much for an IPad app and would be better off on a computer. I also find that the interface can be a bit awkward to use, and is also buggy - it sometimes crashes (I have an iPad 1, perhaps it's better on 2).
I quite like Stellarium on pc so decided to purchase on the iPad. That purchase is best described as a write-off... It runs horribly slowly (again, could be better on iPad 2) and the program really just does not translate well to iPad.
SkySafari Lite I don't use frequently but I found it to strike a good balance between visuals and functionality. It has an attractive, easy to use interface with a very good catalogue and an appropriate amount of customizability.
I have heard that the full version of SkySafari is probably the best and includes telescope control.

I have pretty much all of the above and then some but I agree the full version of SkySafari with the expansion pack is probably the best and it's the one I constantly use for all sorts of reasons as well as controlling my dob and sct at times. The pictures and descriptions of objects are great to read and show other people when they look at an object.
