M104 from the doghouse May 2011

was very lucky to get this last night with coastal showers, dogtrack and neighbours in full bloom and very turbid atmosphere, which at times imploded the guide star and made it dissappear. about 2hours worth 127ed and the cooled 40D. Still learning the processing part, but i didnt get anywhere near enough time on this. A repro with more data is needed.....

Nice one David. I like the view that the 127ed gives and have decided that that is the only scope I'm going to take to Astrofest (along with the guidescope). I want to do some wide field and that should do it.

Thanks Allan - yes it will be there with me at astrofest, as too Alan's. the thing that makes the scope is the hotech field flattener - it is brilliant. In some way i will miss using the scope in the doghouse, but it will be replaced wit a Meade LX200R 14" which i hope to operate with a 0.62 Lepus reducer and a optec temperature compensating focuser - with the cooled 40D LOL i wont go to a dedicated CCD just yet.;)

The galaxy looks quite resolved. Nice disposition. :)

I wish I could get out and do some imagingv-vkeep missing the "window" in between cloud and committments!

Apart for the orange/red cast (easily fixed with a sid) that's actually pretty good mate :thumbsup:

I tell you, Newcastle weather sucks :mad2:, so unpredictable. The weather reports just don't get it that right for here :shrug:...when I was watching Kurri stats they were pretty spot on most of the time, also, even when it is clear/ish out, without an observatory and with a slightly complex system to set up makes it bloody hard to risk it - I'm going stir crazy :nerd: :sadeyes:

oddly enough i have never had a dew heater installed on anything in the observatory - it can be dripping and running off the dome and filling up the lower door but i have nothing on the optics or tube

i can sympathise with you Mike - even tonight it is crud i knew it was a tad reddish but didnt know hom much to bring it back to - still learning to balance the filter. hopefully tomorrow night i will use a borrowed filter to see if its better to work with.
