View Full Version here: : Pink!
I'm not a big fan of cover versions, but I was blown over with Pink's latest offering- "Bohemian Rhapsody" sung live in Australia recently (The Fun House Tour). Absolutely amazing. As cover versions go.. what do you'll think?

By the way, speak of Pink (a quick little story)... ;)
When I was at the Neil Diamond Concert recently at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, there is a female loo there like no other I've ever seen in my life.. I'm not joking.
It's where the foyer is, first loo on the left wing. As you approach it, you'll see a pink light beaming out onto the hallway. Once you're in, you are surrounded by hot pink walls with massive wall to floor posters of pink. The long line of basins are in pink, the doors are in pink, the floor is in pink, the loos are in pink. Black contrasting trims through out.. Little pink lights everywhere. And a nice long lounge chair to relax in. :scared2: It's Pink heaven... I thought I'd left this planet for a minute. Or did I fall face first into cotton candy.:prey2: I was in no hurry to leave. Probably the longest I've spent in a public toot yet.
I guess they did this in her honor as she is always here and draws record crowds in Brissy. Well deserved Pink.
I happened to be at this venue with a nameless person from this forum, (let's call him "John Doe" for he shall remain nameless until he decides to fess up), and he saw the gobsmacked look :scared2: on my face as I walked out of the loo. I tried to describe the pink heaven that I walked out of...am sure he thought I was nuts or making it up. I dared him to take a look because I like "daring" people :D. So he did - regardless of the women hanging around in there at the time. He took his time having a stickybeek in there peering thru the doorway, hand on the opposite uni-sex door in case he needed to make a quick run for it. Yep.. I saw it all . Luckily he didn't get loo rolls thrown at him or handbags belted over his ear. But he believed me then, aha, he sure did. I know you're out there somewhere reading this John Doe. :P I dare you to fess up and let yourself be known. :P:lol:
Sounds pretty cool Suzy, ;) now what did they do with the fellas loos.

Sorry Suzy, I'm not even going to look at it.
NOBODY is worthy of trying to do Bohemian Rhapsody. Freddy was the only person who could ever do that song justice. Everyone else is just a pretender.
Do yourself a favour and go out and get a Blu-Ray or DVD of "Queen - Live at Wembley Stadium" or "Queen on Fire - Live at the Bowl" and you'll come to appreciate a true musician and performer, not some trumped up wannabe!!
Cheers,
Jason.
P.S. All respect to your personal taste.

OK, I relented and watched it.
She can't hold a note, she's an 'Entertainer' not a musician or a singer.
Cheers,
Jason.

I'm with Suzy on this one, definitely !!:thumbsup:
Pink is just one awesome singer. I spotted her a few years back and was blown away by her voice and her range and depth.
Her Bohemian Rhapsody is a tribute to Freddy Mercury, he would have been proud of her both for the rendition and the stage show which we have watched many times. She also does Led Zeppelins "Babe, I'm going to leave you' on the same show and again, she just makes it her own and I am a big Zep fan and don't take covers of any of their stuff easily.
I missed her only Auckland Show a few years back when she was just getting some serious attention but if she EVER comes back down here or to Australia I'll be the first to buy tickets. She does one awesome show ( we've got Funhouse on BluRay ) and she has a huge repertoire of songs and styles , she composes, she trapezes and she is just a brilliant entertainer IMHO. :D
Suzy, you can have Travolta, I'll have Pink !!
See you at her next show !!
Nice hardcase lady too. I feel she really delivers on her shows, there ain't no miming going on round her !! :)

First time I"ve ever seen the lady perform.
Brilliant musos and backing singers and.. and .. and costume  .
But wow that gal just can't sing a note from what I'm hearing ... which in itself is a big worry as I'm mostly deaf .

We need a thread - covers that improve on the original. I'll have to scratch my head for a while since there aren't many that do this successfully.
Nicely put Brent - a top act indeed! ;)
It'd be so great to catch up with you at one her shows when you cruise the waters over. :D
Jen, I recently saw the Funhouse show on Foxtel and really enjoyed it.
Didn't know you had a thread on her in the past, must go take a look!
It's been interesting getting everyone's different opinions. :)
Agreed though, no one can come close to Queen.;)
Personally, I thought she did a top notch job all the same, tho some of you'll disagree, but that's fine and all good, makes for an interesting discussion. ;) :)
Thank you for all your feedback. :)
Erick- that is a great idea you have, but you have me puzzled as well. Something to think about ... Let us know what you come up with and whack it on this thread if you like (it's still relevant to the topic) :D.
Ah Ah. No hints Geoff. :P I would have to find a very big rock to crawl under if I gave it away. Perhaps even hide in a Pakistani range.. Yer awful quiet there John Doe.:P Hmmm, perhaps you could do the process of elimination from people that haven't commented on this thread :P:lol:.
You have to take a look at this :scared2: ......

:lol: I wonder how she'd go with Bohemian Rhapsody :face: Best she keep any weapon like object out of her way. :violin:

I've seen them live. Daniel Gildenlow is one of my favourite vocalists of all time. Top 5.

I've got one - Toni Collette singing the Crowded House Song "Don't Dream It's Over" which she does over the credits of the Movie "Cosi". Heavens knows where you can find it apart from the DVD/VHS of the Movie.
Here is a brief commentary I have found:-
Toni Collette
Having first seen and appreciated Australian actress Toni Collette in Muriel's Wedding, little did I realize how extensive her talents are. In the movie Cosi, she sings three songs... Don't Dream It's Over is one of them. Originally performed by Crowded House and later by Paul Young, this rendition by Toni Collette is, in my opinion, the best rendition.
Should you like this rendition as much as I do, be forewarned that the album soundtrack for Cosi is extremely hard to find. The video is easier to find.
COSI:
Meridian Films (1995).
ISBN 0-7888-1231-9 Director: Mark Joffe. Music:
Stephen Endelman.
CD (ST) Icon. 19961 (1995).

I read a write up of an interview with Nick Mason recently (BTW talk about $$$!) and he made some comments about Floyd covers. The one's he likes most are where someone has taken one of their songs and done something different with it. I tend to agree. If you simply try to slavishly copy the original you're generally on a hiding to nothing (though some of the Dream Theatre covers are damm impressive). You need to find a new angle. (His opinion of an old bloke with a wobble-board is not recorded.)
I heard somewhere that the most covered song (and how would anyone really know) is the the Beatles' Blackbird. That would have to be a good guess as I've lost count of how many jazz versions of that I've heard. It really is a standard.

True, the most interesting covers are when a completely different genre tackles songs!
If you like Lounge/Swing, try these:-

Check "Smells like Teen Spirit" :cool3:
EDIT:- dare we restart the conversation on "Stairways to Heaven"! :scared3:

David, interesting that you mention Nick and Pink Floyd. I'm booked into the Melbourne concert of "Beyond the Darkside" in July - a complete recreation of the Pulse album - audibly and visually. I'm really looking forward to it!
