Did anyone else in Sydney notice an object passing M104 between
23:15 and 23:30 last night? It showed up on my 2 minute images,
and took about 15 minutes to go one degree.

Here's a 2 minute image as it grazed M104, adjusted to show it more
prominently.

Cheers,
Jason.

Hi Jason

Without checking, it may well be the trail of a minor planet. Here is a link (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=31613)to a post where I made an animation of minor planet IRIS passing close by to M104 (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=31613) on 6th May 2008.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Dennis, I was thinking it was likely a minor planet/asteroid.
Probably the only other thing it could be would be a bit of space junk.

Nice capture of Iris btw.

Cheers,
Jason.

Actually yes, your timing is right David, the times on my exposures
are an hour forward, still on daylight savings time. Have now correct
the times in the original post.

Looks like we caught the same thing. It must be a good distance away
as it intersects the same stars on both our shots.

Cheers,
Jason.
