Hello everyone :)

I've been surfing this forum for a few weeks now and thought I'd get more involved since I'm really excited in taking my love for Astronomy to the next level.

I've had a fascination with the universe since I was very young and have a fairly decent understanding on the works of the universe and major theories, however I'm a complete beginner when it comes to telescopes and star/planet gazing.

Unfortunately I live only about 5 minutes from Sydney city so there's not much I can see from my place, however would love to get involved in any meetups or groups if anyone has any recommendations.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know more people on here and asking lots of questions, and I will ask A LOT so I apologize in advance. :P

Hi George, and welcome

Must be a bummer living so close to the city AND wanting to do Astronomy from home.

There are lots of folks up your way that get together. I'm sure they'll come in and say where to meet up :)

Hi George, :welcome:
Like you, I'm fairly new to astronomy.

Don't worry to much about Sydney Light Pollution, 2 yrs ago Gold Coast Council change the street lights in my street from Fluro on every 3rd pole to Highway Strength Bright Lights on every pole.
On the good side, I don't need a torch when I go to the shed at the very back of my property. With 5 lights to dodge, I manage to find small area my yard, were my night vision is not to severely effected.

Can I suggest joining a club / society (at least check it out).
The info you'll pick up is extremely helpful, there is more to astronomy that looking in telescopes, stuff like :- Spectrograph, Collimation, ect. The wealth of knowledge and experience of the members is great.

Some club have loan telescopes (that's how I learnt dods mount was easy, and my friend's equatorial mount frustrating).

Hopefully I was able to help you.:astron: :stargaze:
