Hi everyone,

Changing my shifts to work in the afternoon let me get out this morning to have a look at the planets. I will post others later, but I thought it might be useful to show this one of Jupiter. Taken at 5:59am local Brisbane time the planet was 13 degrees above the horizon. Pretty unclear image but I think that the SEB might be back. (Note, north is to the bottom left of the image). Angular size is 33.4 arcseconds. Elongation from Sun 17 degrees.

Cheers,

Tom

Yes, it's back. It was reforming before the end of last apparition, Tom.

Here is the last image I made in February (elongation 36 deg E) for comparison. The SEB looks alot more prominent now.

Yes, I take your point that it is certainly more prominent now. Can't wait to have a crack at Jupiter, but it's too low for me right now.

Can't wait to see your Jupiter images this year John - here's hoping for excellent seeing!

Thanks Tom! Certainly looking forward to your efforts too! Right now, I've got my new project up & running, consisting of a 14" conical mirror in a skelatal OTA & riding the EQ6. I'm quietly excited, because after 5 nights of testing, I'm going to (hopefully) blitz any C11 work I've done so far this Saturn opposition.

Edit: Forgot to say well done on this capture! - Back in the good ol' days, I was usually the first to post a planet image for the apparition! HA! I'm not quite so keen these days, but nearly!:D

BRING ON THAT GOOD SEEING - WOO-HOO!

Sensational!! I would never have the balls to photograph anything at 16 degrees. At that angle I just see my neighbor's roof!
