Imaged is NGC6231 Open cluster and some adjacent nebulosity.

Two versions one with and one without spikes.

Imaged with QHY9, Baader LRGB filters through Takahashi FSQ106ED at f5.
10 x 5 minute exposures each LRGB

I like the one without the spikes, although the one with has character... On the large image the OC looks like it has bloated stars, or is this my monitor? Job well done otherwise.

I kind of like the spikes :) Great colors and sharp focus. Framing a bit tight but I guess you had no choice given the field. Top stuff.

Thanks everyone for the kind remarks. I wasn't sure how this would turn out being only 5 minute exposures but I am happy with the result. I kept the exposures at 5 minutes to try and retain as much star colour as possible as 10 or more minute exposures seems to loose a lot of the colour in the stars resulting in the need to replace the stars with a mask to a set of lesser exposed ones.

Thanks again.

Thanks Guy's, I think I like the spikes as well for an open cluster. They just add something.

Excellent image, Doug! Heaps of nebulous detail in the high-res version. Thanks for sharing.

Missed this one until now. Nice image Doug. I like the one with spikes. Good colours too love the juxtaposition of the two object.

Fine subtle image Doug well processed and I like both with and without spikes (I'm used to both now ;)), coincidentally this is the next field I have planned for the AG12 + PL16803...if the weather here ever clears ..I nearly got it on Wednesday night but we had heavy rain up until dark and then the ground was soggy and patchy cloud around...I am ready to pack this hobby in and take up an indoor passtime

Thanks Alex. It is worth posting the Hi Res image. 200KB doesn't allow for much colour or fine detail.

Thanks Paul, fitting it in was a bit of a squeeze.

Thanks Mike. Cut the crap, I can't see you carpet bowling, but then again......No you couldn't afford the repairs to the holes in the walls and your wife would probably kill you anyway.
Bedroom Gymnastics.... Not for me, getting to old. Lost interest anyway
Keep your chin up and pray for clear skies.

Maybe Ice hockey? wouldn't you run with Mike hurtling towards you at 50KM/Hr to bash you into a wall. Frightening thought. Back to the bedroom.
