Hi
can anyone tell me where I can get a set of tube rings (not the clamshell) for my FS-60. I am already aware of Peter Tan (he just made a very nice set for my 8" newt!) and Parallax (although they don't list them on their website, I have just emailed and asked if they can do them...)
Are there any others?

Adam,
I just ordered a set of rings for my FSQ-106ED from these guys: http://www.socalastro.com/Products.htm
They have 80mm rings as well.
Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Rick - they look well made. Their dovetail plates are very reasonably priced...I had never come across that site before.

They were my first thought Peter - but they only seem to sell guide rings - couldn't find any plain OTA rings on their site.

Adam - I have a pair of Peter Tans rings for my Sky90 which I find very good, but used two original Tak clamshells mounted on Losmandy clamp blocks (for ajustability) to contain the FS60. I know you said no to these, but they are really solid in this double configuration. All of them sandwiched between three Losmandy D-series plates, it's as solid-as. Great guiding. I can even piggyback my 5D Mk-II on top.

that looks great chris - did you use the two clamshells because you were getting flexure with one, or was it just so you could attach the other dovetail to the top...?
Also could you explain what you meant when you said it was for adjustability?
Cheers

Both Adam. Using two of them, the ever-so slight flexure I experienced with the single clamshell is now completely defeated, and in doing so provided me with a stable platform on which to mount the additional top plate. In reference to adjustability, the two Losmandy clamp blocks, ex. a set of Losmandy guide rings (which I loathe - and are in most cases a waste of time in my opinion) let me slide the entire guide scope up and down part of the length of the Sky90 under it. Great for balance fine tuning.

oh - I see. I do the same thing with balancing when I use the FS-60 as a guider on top of my newt..except I just have the one losmandy adapter and one clamshell. However - come to think of it I haven't been that happy with the guiding with this set-up - might have to go with the Omaroo Super Double Dooper Clamshell Attachment (Patent Pending)...!

The SocalAstro rings and dovetail plates arrived today. All good quality stuff...
Cheers,
Rick.

Came across this thread in my search, and have just bought a tak FS 60.It comes with the clam shell holder. I would like to mount it on a neq6 pro ( which I havent got yet!).
Could anyone tell me exactly what components I need to do this?
2.Also Can anyone tell me what I need to mount the FS60 piggyback on a celestron 9.25?
there are so many plate options, and I have no experience of a gem set up, so apologies for the lack of knowledge on my part.
thanks in advance
