Ok, it is the lovely sthrn pin wheel time of the year.
This is my rendition.
Took a while to get some decent colour and the lum was a bit fuzzy. Not to mention the guiding a little mmm.
But it is too good a target to miss.

Gorgeous shot Rich. You've picked some great star colors even in that close blue/yellow pair and those three little background galaxies are very well resolved too. M83 itself is splendid. Nicely done. :thumbsup:
PS: you guys in WA have to stop hogging all the clearskies and send some out east.

A lovely rendition Rich! Great detail and colours and you've done a good job controlling the noise. Well done!
Suggest you go for longer subs next time though. You won't have to battle so hard to get the colours and control noise then.

I always look to those little galaxies just to see how well they are resolving. I was happy to see a bit more of them revealed this year.

I didn't really have any drama with the noise... I didn't even use any noise smoothing on the rgb data.. sometimes I do before merging the lum.
All the subs were pretty clean, so no noise reduction was used.
But you are right, it would be great if I could get out to longer exposures, would make processing even easier.
At the mo I'm stuck with flexure issues in my setup.. I have worked at this, but still stuck to 4 min.
An OAG will be where I need to go in the near future for sure.

A very nice M83 Rich. Very clear and nicely detailed. I know what you mean about flexure. It is a problem. OAG should help a lot. I have decided to scrap my guidescope and use the MMOAG only. It works really well on the CDK17 which would be impossible without it. With it 30 minute subs are possible with accurate enough Polar Alignment and PEC.

Its surprising how many objects can be imaged with the wide field FSQ.
Rogelio Andreo is one of the best at that. He even has a large mosaic linking M31 and M33. It looks quite good even though you wouldn't expect it.

Flexure aaahhhh, I've been battling it for years, but I know it's my accessory plate... either I go even thicker that 14mm alloy, or find a alloy blend that is stronger than what I have.... pretty much limited to what's available around here though.
Sounds like your having good fun with the OAG... 30min... beeeeautiful!
Have done my pec for the first time with my CI700/sitech controller and Pempro... I have very small PE without pec (after much fine tuning adding ceramic worm bearings, new Ra & Dec thrust bearing replacing clutchs, top of the range pulleys {no spur gears for me})..but now with PEC, it's sublime.. almost a straight line. Just that gol darn sag.
If and when I go for the OAG, that means I'll have to fork out for a light weight guider as well:sad: mm SX OAG, loadstar..... $$$$$$$$:whistle:

Thanks Keith, although a large object it is a hard one to tease a great deal of the finer intricacies out of..... especially when the nights arrn't perfect ... as we would like all the time.
Yes the OAG has been weighing on my mind heavily for a while.. I guess I could still use my faithfull old HX516 to carry on guide duty till I can afford a lodestar... mmmm:confuse3:

Not 100% confident with the Lodestar. Mine has a bright horizontal line that is an artifact. Its a pain as when I go to callibrate or use the auto select feature of CCDsoft in autoguiding it picks this horizontal line instead of the star.
Mark on this site also mentioned his had a line in it as well. Something wrong with the electronics I think.

Have you got onto to Terry??
If not, I would do this, I know for a fact that he would not like to hear about it and would do his best to sort it.
Perhaps there is a faulty resistor some where or was a bad QC issue when sent out from the factory. But all the same, this is not good...
Get onto him mate! I know Terry would go out of his way to sort it, one way or the other!
