Hi Guys

I really do love clusters so here's one shot through Jim Misti's 32"RC from Misti Mountain Observatory.

Open Cluster in Scutum.

32"RC

STL1100

Acquisition by Jim Misti and Processed by Louie Atalasidis

LRGB : 6 minutes each with 1 minute sub exposures

RGB combined in AA4 and LRGB post processed in CS4.

Hope you enjoy clusters as much as I do.

Lovely cluster. It just feels a bit 'tight' to me, I'd prefer to see a bit wider FOV.

Tell Jim to try again ;)

I agree with Mike.

A nice job of processing Louie but a 32 inch RC is not the best tool for a star cluster.

In my opinion these look best when done with a nice refractor. They're not really "close up" candidates. I noticed that when I first started using a 12.5 RC that globs and open clusters didn't really come up that well and look a bit bloated.

Greg.

Thanks for the feedback and your opinions Mike and Greg....I actually feel that because this cluster is almost globular like It sits well and some nice colors on display.

Globular clusters and long focal length scopes...can look awesome Greg If done well.

I recon it looks great with this framing  ..sure a wider field would also look good but for different reasons, here it is a portrait of the cluster alone - nice! Lovely star colours too Louie.

Yes I suppose so. I have seen some that were good. Daniel Verschase had a fabulous processing regime going with globs and a 14.5 RCOS.
He seemed to accentuate the wonderful golden stars that are often in the globs.

I have seen that effect occassionally doing processing but I'd have to work at it to discover it again. I think it was his use of selective colours tool that got that effect. His globs are the best on the net.

Greg.
