I've been able to do prime-focus video for nearly a year now and that's been a real hoot, however I've never had a mount or knowledge enough to do prime-focus DSLR/SLR shots. After many trials and tribs I've finally caught one. If you like you can see a nicer, larger version by clicking here. (http://www.zodiaclight.com/galleria/OrionsSwordZoom.htm)

Feels good. I didn't realise the work that would be required when I first started out, but it's been a good journey and well worth the effort/expense. Next shot is the Flame Nebula.... :-)

Nice shot. I'm eagerly awaiting the day I have a DSLR to get such nice colour images in such short exposure time.

Excellent shot, I am using a 350D (unmodified) myself, they make a great astro camera.

Thanks Tony. You can view my setup/equipment here. (http://www.zodiaclight.com/equipment.htm)

The image is a stack of 36 x 30 second subs captured prime-focus in a Meade LXD-75 SN-8" using the Canon 350D Digital Rebel at ASA1600 with Noise Reduction On. Focus was achieved through the camera viewfinder using a Hartmann Mask. Data aligned in MaxDSLR and histogrammed in ImageReady.

Thanks Bill.

Good to see another SN with a camera strapped on. Can't beat those f4 optics. Love your site too!

Good shot there, great to see another astronomer getting into the wonderful world of astro imaging prime focus (or if you want to be fussy "newtonian focus") :)
