Rho/Antares area

Here's my last shot from Ilford. It's a big area so I did many versions with different download sizes. The three thumbnails below are the two halves of the whole field. Then a reduced version of the whole field.

That's 9 panels all up. I started with 5x5min per panel but run out of time as the night progressed and I ended up running for cover on the last bits so you'll find the right of the field is alright but as you go left through the center there is still a lot of noise. I'll certainly add data to this set, extend the exposure times to go deeper and increase the framing area. Enjoy. :thumbsup:

lovely image, there are a few things to the whole image, with some rainbowing from antares to the top left - no idea how you remove that one. :thumbsup: lovely area, you should push your data a tad more - in saying that i did that with your jpeg just to see how much colour you had there - there is heaps. Well done on the 9 panels - lots of dust

Thanks David. The area you're talking about has only two subs stacked. Very data starved in places and it shows. That's why it's so dark and not stretched much. I hope to add to it then I'll be able to reject properly halos and noise. I'm quite happy with the right. The middle and left, not so much.

I am not sure what this image is - is this a mosaic of 9 panels?

Blends are very smooth and good stitching together. A couple of brush marks top left cnr.

Overall very good.

Ideally of course like any of these images best done as a multi hour per panel thing but 9 panels would've taken nearly 2 weeks of good weather - which is an unreal expectation at the moment.

Thanks Greg. Yes - 9 overlap give or take. Not very well planned though. In retrospect I could have covered a lot more. I just got scared to miss any seams.



Yeah, nasty brushing top left. Big halo from inside the extension tubes. Painted now :) This needs at least 10x10min per panel. That's what I did with my newt on 4 panels a while ago.

Great stuff Marc, looks very natural, and i too like the more neutral approach in the colour area, some can be a bit overdone, but that is only MHO.

Thanks Leon. :thumbsup: I kind of like it natural when doing RGB too. A bit more data will allow me to strectch it while keeping nice star colors. The scope is very sharp compared to my newt or ED80, that's for sure.

That's good Marc. A 9 panel mosaic using a one shot colour. Could be a good setup. Saves on the colour balance between panels to some degree.

Well I still process the channel separately and do some pixel math to match. I also know the color ratios of my camera: R:1 G:1.14 B:1.51. PS does the last blending mostly to adjust luminosity.

Personally I'd go with a saturation increase I like the bright colours of the region

Had a very good night doing this but it does need a lot of time. It's such a big area. :shrug: I'm thinking of doing that first with my Pentax lens if the weather doesn't keep up.
