I managed to capture this rare Solar Eclipse by "Sombrero" Galaxy M104 .

It only lasted some 30 seconds, I was lucky to be imaging the sun at the the time, and it just popped up. A memorable event I am sure wont be repeatable for quite some time !.

Processing was difficult, as they have quite different surface brightnesses.

Hang on... I get my sunglasses... Wow! You've handled the dynamic range really well. Champion!

Very funny Fred. You had me there for a second. For M104 to eclipse the sun it would mean the galaxy (M104) is in between the Earth and the Sun and I really don't think it would fit.

Good one.

Greg.

I sence a kind of cynical dought in these replies, do you think my camera is faulty?, or I cheat?. Im not bored, and I have never touched up my astro images, at all, AT ALL.

I resent any attack on my integrity. M104 eclipsed the Sun, and thats a fact.

And for the next challenge I'd like an image of those flying pigs transiting the sun as well.;)

Fred,

By my calculations the Sombrero was only in the position you describe very late on the evening of March 31 and just into the early hours of the following morning. Its a very rare event!

How come it took you so long to process it?

Al.

Actually, I believe that is, in fact, a very large UFO masquerading as M104:):):P:P

I beg to differ... the sun is made up of gas, thus is transparent :P ... Thus M104 is behind the sun ...
