after my presentation at IISAC last year, Fred (Bassnut) got inspired to build me a control system for my timelapse toys. i previously had just an azimuth stepper motor on my Bintel Alt-Az mount, but Fred has developed an all singing, all dancing timelapse machine (some people may have seen Fred with his copy at SPSP also). like most of these projects, i'm sure Fred thought it would be easy at first but i'm pretty sure he doesn't want to count the hours he's spent on it now. anyway, after receiving the machine and adapting motors to fit the mount i got my first chance to play with it last weekend during a workshop i was running at Lake Eppalock (the lake was full the first time in more than 10 years).

i also built myself a very rough and ready dolly out of timber and pvc pipe, and for this second sequence had switched the azimuth motor to reel in the dolly instead:

(you can select various video resolutions to suit your bandwidth..)

so thanks to Fred for making this possible. it seems he's ok with imaging at >2500mm and <25mm. in between, not so much http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/../vbiis/images/smilies/tongue05.gif

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: Extremely beautiful videos!
Can you share some tech details of the video (lens/camera/exposures) and perhaps a picture of the "time-machine"? Now this is making me curious ;)

They're both great Phil, I really liked the second one though.

No music this time?

thanks Marco.. Canon 5DmkII, 24mm f1.4L lens (mkI.. there is a mkII available as well). ~ 10 second exposures at ISO3200. will post some pics of the time machine tonight..

Yes, they need music but haven't had time yet to source that. Takes time (and usually money) to find good soundtracks with permission to use. Will work on that too..

Phil that is some awesome stuff, excellent work, I disagree with some, keep the music with the videos just makes it better.

Not sure who you're disagreeing with - these videos didn't have music and I'm suggesting that he adds it as usual :)

i've attached a pic of Fred's timemachine and the dolly setup. the dolly setup is not half (not even 1/10th) as professional, but hey.. it seems to work. can only go uphill at the moment though :-)
