This is a Ha image of the running chicken nebula taken tonight with the Atik 11002m mono camera and a 7nm Ha filter through my Tak FSQ106ED
10 X 10 minute exposures.

I can finally see a chook. It is at the very bottom centre of the image (A beak and 2 Eyes) I can also see why it is running. Behind it is a big bloke with flowing scruffy long hair and clothes with his arm extended. Maybe an axe in hand.

Also I have included a crop of the tiny Boc Glob from the center of the image. (it's not dirt on the sensor either)

THIS CAMERA IS FOR SALE IN THE CLASSIFIED SECTION

Might look more "finger licking good" if you rotated it 90 CCW.

Great image.

I've been saying to myself for ages that I can't see a chook. Thanks for that, lovely image!

Nice image Doug. I have to admit that I can't see it from your shot though.

Cheers

:jawdrop: Blinking heck!!! What detail Doug! Am so glad you have kept it in black and white too. Those two eyes and beak stand out like there's no tomorrow- eyes round and evenly shaped, with the beak (a pointy triangle) sitting perfectly between the two eyes. It's incredible how much detail of the face you have captured here!
That beak is ... is... is... insane!

For those that are having trouble seeing it- have a look for the little black spludge mark/dark lane on the head of the chicken. Straight below it, it connects to both eyes. It's almost like that black spludge is that red flappy thing on top of their head because that too seems to be sitting in perfect alignment.

Truly freaky Doug!

Nice result Doug, if someone doesn't grab your camera now I would be surprised.

As for the running chicken, as I have said before no matter how much fun you all want to have  :screwy: , I have it on good authority that it is deffinitely as per the attached photo

Ah yes - I can see what you are referring to now. That, for want of a better name, is an "alternative chicken" that I haven't seen before. The more conventional chicken can be seen is this picture by Martin Pugh which won the Malin awards a couple of years back.

Nice drawing David

I still think Doug's take on it made more sense- I mean I defintely see a beak and two eyes there, baby chick even.

Thanks Mike for making it clearer by posting those pics. Us visual observers need to have really good imaginations you know- we have to take in every bit of detail we can see and then formulate an opinion on it :P  Perhaps what I referred to as a beak is perhaps a really really long claw, as your image shows it to be his foot.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Interesting to post something I can get a laugh from.

The camera is for sale to allow me to purchase another scope and a camera better suited to both scopes. Better ASPP figures. This one is running at 3.5 -5 ASPP and the smaller stars are just single pixel stars.

Great image but I think the chook is a genetically modified one gone wrong.

An excellent image, Doug! I think the nebula should be renamed to "Running Chooks" as there is clearly more than one :)

Thanks for the view, I have always struggled to see a chicken there through the eyepiece.

Lovely result here Doug!
Like both the wide and narrow version.
I like the way this lovely scope can handle things up close.
The crop just shows these scopes are winners!

BTW, have included this image of where I think the chook is in comparison to Mikes... plus it looks as though there is a guy who's snaffled a baby chick.. ;)
Cheers

Just a cloud of illuminated dust and gas to me. Now the Horse's rear-end nebula - that's much clearer to me. :D

But that's a nice image, Doug. Nice detail.
