View Full Version here: : Remote Power Management
I'm looking for a 240V power switch that can be controlled from a PC.
iBootBar (http://dataprobe.com/ibootbar-remote-reboot.php#Prices) looks good, but it's a bit expensive. Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative?

The UPS industry has all sorts of controllable power switch systems, via TCP/IP , port selectable etc.
What do you mean by 'bit expensive' though ?
$500 USD
Is there a specific UPS model you can recommend?

I saw this thread (http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4464838/page/0/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/all/fpart/1) on Cloudy Nights recently. I realise they will be for 110V, but you might get some ideas.

Try this – http://www.smarthome.com.au/ I used to have a dealership with this company and found the products to be quite useful unfortunately I didn't sell enough of them to continue being a dealer I made re-try again later after I can get into full swing again.

Thanks everyone. At this stage I like this one : UX-3 (http://www.cpscom.com/gprod/ux3.htm) for $149 USD

Hi James, just be careful the US Power system is only 120 V at 60 Hz whereas Australia uses 240 V at 50 Hz. It is very rare to order Electrical stuff from the US unless it has full voltage range capabilities.

Contact your local APC dealer for localised products. My wife 'works' for them in NZ so get to hear about all this stuff. Other UPS manfacturers also have similar products. Normally though the general public don't hear about them because they are high end server room equipment.
Sounds like you don't want a UPS but a controllable outlet distribution board. These are networkable or controllable via a PC.

I use the AVIOSYS IP9258 bought from Jaycar for $200 plus $40 for 4 x power plug adaptors.
It is absolutely brilliant!
I've attached a screen grab of the web interface.
Thanks Jonathan, I ended up getting the same one. So far no problems.
Do you know if there are updates available for the firmware?

Good to hear the IP9258 cuts it. I just bought one of those units for a remote observatory under construction.

I haven't seen any firmware updates for it, but there is nothing seeminlgly wrong with it either. Top bit of kit and stunning value for money.
