Some interesting bugs out there, most of which I have no idea how to identify. My online bugs guides just don't cover much.

I think the green caterpillar is the Citrus Swallowtail butterfly.

Barry, the Botanical Gardens Bookshop out near the ANU has a fantastic range of bug, spider, insect, bird, and whatever else books. Well worth a look.

Nice collection there mate, glad to see some bugs still around. Lighting might be a little harsh for my liking, but I know that's hard to control with the twinlight and macros.

This is about as specific as I get with my IDs - #1 is a fly, #2 is a jumping spider, #4 is a ladybird larva, and not sure about the others. I have a few books and links on insects and spider IDs, but rarely pull them out. I'm interested in the kinds of insects they are, but don't get caught up in the very specific latin names etc although I have picked up a few along the way. :D

Thanks Troy. I have a great secret diffuser on my macro twin-lites now to make the lighting more even and bring down those specular highlights.

My preferred method now is to make them as bright as possible without blowing highlights or losing detail, particularly because I am printing a lot now and print ALWAYS comes out darker.

Thanks to your initial intro with me on Skype all that time ago to familiarise me with a few of the controls on a Canon, I have been practicing EVERY DAY since. I thank you from the bottom of my heart Troy! This photography jaunt has become a runaway train! Now my business (I no longer work for the man) I am retailing, do property shoots (real estate), have done some weddings now and have more booked this year, plus portraits, pets and working for some publications. This year is going to be an exciting one!!

Only downside is filling in that bloody BAS every quarter..... ;)

Good on ya Baz! You're certainly photographing more than me these days, and it shows. I'm very jealous that you've been able to take it up and make a living from doing something you obviously love so much. Kudos.
