Hi All,

This is an ultra-wide (14mm FF) view of the Emu rising above the Somuncura Plateau at the Argentinian Patagonia.
The skies there are really fantastic, nearest town is about 200km away and there're no small settlements, campings, nothing at all.

I planned to shoot several images to stack them but I run into some technical problems so this is an untracked single shot.

It's the first time I see the coalsack so clearly defined and now I notice how clear the head of the Emu looks.

Scorpius is rising at the bottom, Eta Carina at the top and you know the rest :D

Very nice image Luis, and the location would be ideal away from the ratrace.

TyVM!
I have a larger version on flickr

In the final version I removed some of the useless black ground that you can see in the flickr photo.

I found very interesting how visible Omega Centauri was even in an ultra wide view and at simple sight. It looks like a bright star and it's a target that I've always found difficult to find with the naked eye from light polluted skies.

Top shot luis! Not sure but if you had waited a little longer the emu's legs would have risen and it may have looked like it was standing on the horizon..?

Wow what a place to do astronomy from :eyepop: Is it relatively cloud free?

Yes, I might have waited a little,
The place is very dry and cloud free but it has terrible winds most of the year, that makes anything difficult.

Looks great. The orientation and horizon line give it dimensions. It's huge.
