TELRAD : an alternate way to mount?

Having just acquired a MEADE 12 inch LX200 ACF OTA, and previously purchased a Telrad to be used as it' s finder, I'm a bit reluctant to use the double sided tape on the Telrad base to mount it on the OTA's new paint work.:rolleyes:

Does anyone know of an alternative method of mounting the Telrad?........perhaps using the MeadE's finder scope bracket fitting already on the OTA?:question:

I know Rob, Telrads are great, but it made a mess of my previous 8" Dob. :sadeyes:
Wish they could come up with a screw in base. :help: I suppose a clever person could maybe screw in the base??

Pardon the hijack but does the tape supplied with the Telrad lift the paint when being removed?

I have had success with nylon cable ties.

Jaycar have them up to 500mm long, but they can be joined together if a suitable length is not available.

I had to relocate my Telrad recently and the double sided tape didnt lift any paint. Delicately scratched it off with my finger nails, cleaned up with some metho and you wouldn't have known anything has been there.:thumbsup:

Not wanting to highjack this thread but double sided tape can be cut with dental floss by using a sawing action and then the residue cleaned with 'Sticky Spot and Stain Remover' (Citrius based). Test the product on an inconspicuous area.

I'll probably purchase something via the links provided,or make something to fit the Meade's finder bracket.

Good to hear that it's unlikely to remove the paint work, but as this is the new Meade'' LS series like'' textured lighter blue, there may be a different story when trying to remove the residue compared to a smooth gloss finish paint?

Turpentine is the best 'goo' remover. Just dissolves it away and leaves the paint untouched. Good for tar spatters on the car as well. Let it soak for a few minutes and just 'roll' the goo off with a finger.
