Ngc 4945

Hi to everyone

Although I had planned to take a rest last night, it stayed clear so I felt I shouldn't waste it. The seeing was pretty ordinary though.

Here's a shot of NGC 4945 in Centaurus. While not exactly a quickie, my total exposure time is usually about double this. The flare to the left is from a 5th magnitude star just off the edge of the frame. I decided to leave it as is and not attempt to process it out.

Nice one Steve. Not the prettiest galaxy around but a nice version of it.

I've had success minimising those flares by flocking my secondary shroud on my CDK. It'd probably work on the RCOS. Perhaps the shroud unscrews making it easy to install the flock.

Would you consider a slight "highpass" filter on it to make some of the darker regions pop out inside the galaxy?

Thanks Frank. Yes I was going to try some selective high pass filtering but haven't got round to it. I was a bit preoccupied with problems with my observatory roof this afternoon



Thanks Greg. Actually I like NGC 4945 with that golden colour it has. Thanks for the tip about the flare. At the moment it's only a rare occurrence so it's probably not necessary to do anything about it yet.

I did a slight reprocess to bring out the dust lanes a bit more. I also tried to get rid of the flare on the left as much as possible. There is a much fainter flare extending to the upper right from the galaxy, apparently as a result of another 4th magnitude star in that direction.

Fantastic work Steve.

Certainly a favourite of mine. In fact almost any Galaxy throughout Centaurus, Dorado etc are favourites coz the Nthn Hemisphere can't see them, they are all ours!
